It is noteworthy that Shalmaneser III, a prominent king of Assyria, mentioned Jehu in his so-called “Black Obelisk.” This four-sided black limestone object contains a number of bas-relief panels, one of which depicts Jehu paying tribute to the Assyrian emperor. The obelisk is now in the British Museum.
